Love is a giving away of power. When we love, we give the other person the power in the relationship. They can do what they choose. They can do what they like with our love. They can reject it, they can accept it, they can step toward us in gratitude and appreciation.
Love is a giving away. When we love, we put ourselves out there, we expose ourselves, we allow ourselves to be vulnerable.
Love is giving up control. It's surrendering the desire to control the other person. If we are serious about loving someone, we have to surrender all of the desires within us to manipulate the relationship."

Are you on Facebook, Pam? It's quite a good way to meet like-minded people.
Iain,
yes...i'm on facebook and myspace...but i've never used either of them for dating purposes...i have too many friends and former students to keep up with across the miles...and i hate to "mix" that stuff. i do get the (about once a week) email or invite from some guy cruising myspace to find women...but..i just can't stand adding friends that way and particularly when i'm clearly using the space as a way to stay in touch with students/friends. Gosh, I could write an entire blog post about this subject.
i've got ALOT more to say about all of this...interesting developments....but...i'm trying to get some closure on some things before i write about it here.
