Prayers for Kurt

Please pray for Kurt. He has experienced a sudden and tragic loss. I'm not sure how much detail he'd want to divulge so I'll leave it at that. He is traveling across country to deal with it. So, prayers are needed. If you are Catholic, I'd ask that you light a candle for him. That's what he always does for me when I need special prayers.

love and grace,
pam

I am so sorry to hear this - I am praying for his peace and comfort and that angels come to him during this time, whether they are heavenly or live here on earth.

Isn't that just like Pam to make you guess what happened? I think that's the secret of her success. She really knows how to build suspense.

Well, here's what happened. My Mom's friends called me Tuesday night because my Mom hadn't shown up for work, and she wasn't answering her phone. A couple of them let themselves in through the sliding glass door and found her dead. Apparently she had just finished her afternoon Martini the day before, and her heart gave out.

She had a pretty serious incident about a year or two ago (passed out in the grocery store) and had to have an angioplasty, and at that point she could have moved into an assisted living place and smoking, drinking and eating Kentucky Fried Chicken, and maybe she would have lasted another ten years, but that just wasn't her style.

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers, everybody.

"Stopped." I meant to say "stopped smoking, drinking and eating Kentucky Fried Chicken."

And bacon. "Mom, aren't you supposed to be watching your saturated fat?"

"Yes."

"But there's bacon in the fridge."

"That's for the cat, dear."

Sure it was.

Yep. But then again, I would've done the same thing Pam did. But maybe I'm just trying to mimic her in order to become more successful. ;)

ok..well...since we're all baring our souls here...

i was actually being selfish...in a way, by not revealing anything...

i mean..heck..what if there had been any foul play afoot...i had very little to go on about how it all "came down"...and I didn't want to put anything on here that might result in a supoena(sp?) later on...

so much for my cunning blog skills!

Kurt,

I'm seriously praying for you. I know you deal with these things through humor..as I do..but I know that you will miss your mom terribly. It is a loss that, I would think, tends to conjur up all sorts of memories and I will pray that you find the most peaceful and cathartic way to get through it.

love ya blog buddy!

Yeah, Pam, I know what you mean. This situation feels a lot like the "Chuckles Bites the Dust" episode on the Mary Tyler Moore Show. (CollegeJay and anybody else too young for that reference: I'm sure it's on wikipedia.) My Mom was such a naturally funny person, every time you tell a story about her, everybody in the room starts laughing. I'm actually kind of worried that the folks at the funeral home are going to take issue with the atmosphere of jollity that I anticipate at her memorial service this afternoon.
